A free information service for education on the World Wide Web was launched this week at the Council of Local Education Authorities conference in Bristol. The Tele-School Online Website is tailored for education, aimed at schools, students, teachers and parents. A non profit-making organisation, Tele-School Online is sponsored by NTL, the parent company of CableTel, one of the UK’s leading cable companies.

Tele-School aims to promote the Internet as an educational resource and a medium for collaborative learning. For example, it has a list of schools throughout the world that are already on the Internet, along with Web addresses, and the same for on-line UK local authorities.

The range of links is wide, and with a curriculum focus - the Council of Subject Teaching Associations has contacts for all its member organisations. The organisation is applying for European funds to extend the service.
