Call for greater focus on the arts

The National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company have joined the Tate in calling for the arts to be given a prominent place in the key stage 4 curriculum. Tate director Sir Nicholas Serota has said Westminster proposals to replace GCSEs with English Baccalaureate Certificates, which do not include arts as a core subject, could deprive a generation of cultural skills.
