A pound;25 million “education village” in Manchester has been given the go-ahead under the Building Schools for the Future programme.

Gorton education village will bring together Cedar Mount high school and Melland special educational needs high on one campus in east Manchester, offering 900 mainstream places and 100 SEN places.

The project which opens in autumn 2008, is the first part of the city council’s pound;450m plans to build 27 new schools and six academies over the next six years.
