Sally Hunt advances points worthy of consideration in expressing her concerns, as general secretary of the University and College Union, in relation to “factionalism” and those members who attempt to exploit the FE sector as a means of asserting their own particular political agenda (”`Factionalism’ dilutes our power to help members, says UCU chief”, 3 June).

Attending my one and only UCU conference in Manchester a couple of years ago, I was greeted each morning by gaggles of individuals attempting to sell me the Morning Star.

I reflected at the time - and many times since - should I have expected otherwise?
