Cancer death writ

The National Union of Teachers has served a writ on Greenwich Council in south-east London following the death of teacher Shirley Gibson from an asbestos-related cancer in 1993.

An inquest found that Ms Gibson, 37, had died of an industrial injury, probably arising from her work at Plumstead Manor School. Asbestos was removed from 21 rooms in 1993 after teachers refused to work there.
