Young people in Renfrewshire have voted Leaving Poppy, a Gothic horror novel by Kate Cann, as their favourite teen novel.

Five contemporary teenage novels were shortlisted for the third annual Teenage Book Award by Renfrewshire school librarians before being read and discussed by young people throughout the authority’s secondary schools. The pupils then took part in a secret ballot to vote for their winner.

The author was presented with a crystal plaque in front of more than 100 young people from local schools. The ceremony was also attended by fellow nominees Catherine MacPhail, author of Nemesis 1: Into the Shadows and Chris Farnell, who wrote Mark II.
