The traditional rote and drill methods of remembering tables can be a nightmare experience for primary children because of the fear of getting it wrong in front of the whole class. As part of her work in Plymouth University’s School of Mathematics, postgraduate maths researcher Wendy Fortescue Hubbard has developed a card game called “Perfect Times”, which she claims has helped improve children’s performance in school trials.
Patent pending. Details: Hugh Beere, PEP Research and Consultancy Ltd, Charles Cross Centre, Constantine St, Plymouth, Devon. Tel: 01752 225999. Commercial enterprises interested in producing and marketing the game welcome.
