Care problem is non-resident

It’s a mistake to identify training capacity as the primary reason for a skills shortage in the care sector (FE Focus, February 17). As a care training provider, we have to eliminate around 50 per cent of care staff from every course because they do not comply with the three-year residency requirement that ensures government funding for their training.

The Government was told two years ago that encouraging the employment of non-resident workers and then refusing to train them would lead to the problems we now face in every sector, not just care.
