IT WAS a big day for St Augustine’s High in Edinburgh last Friday. They played host to a gathering of veritably ecumenical proportions.
Lord Hogg, the Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, was paying a symbolic visit to the Catholic secondary along with his wife - the first time an RC school has been visited by the Queen’s representative to the Assembly.
They were joined - the symbolism gets better and better - by Archbishop Keith O’Brien, the head of the Catholic church in the east of Scotland.
Those who pay attention to such things will note that the Lord and Lady High Commissioner are officially addressed as “Your Grace”, which is also the style to which the Archbishop has become accustomed. We are therefore able to reveal that St Augustine’s had a visit last week from The Three Graces.
