Teenagers from poor families will receive pound;40 a week, as an incentive to stay on at school or college. The scheme was announced by Chancellor Gordon Brown this week. Young people will be eligible if their families earn less than pound;13,000. The aim is to cut the 150,000 16 to 18-year-olds not in work, education or training.
