Satoshi Kitamura has created a three-part comic strip with wide age appeal starring his board-book cat character in Comic Adventures of Boots (Andersen Press pound;9.99).

Boots likes to sleep and, in “Operation Fish-Biscuit”, is mightily put out to discover that all spaces on the garden wall have been taken by neighbourhood cats. A plan that involves a diversionary bait of fish-shaped biscuits amusingly backfires. In “Pleased to Meet You, Madam Quark”, Boots tries to swim, only to be rescued and resuscitated by a duck. The closing story, “Let’s Play a Guessing Game”, is a visual and verbal delight in which the cats tackle charades with ingenuity.
