As teachers we are battling against a belief which has very often been instilled by parents who pass on their own prejudices. This does not mean we should not challenge the attitudes of these people, but I fear the picture painted in the article of a more tolerant and accepting society is a rosy one. Behind closed doors, I fear that gay people are still demonised by the apparently tolerant silent majority.
