Caught nappying

There is no denying that councillors have rich and varied agendas to dispose of. Disposal was, indeed, one of the issues facing East Renfrewshire’s executive as it discussed the “reusable nappy project”.

This aims to persuade parents not to dispose of nappies, which are apparently causing increasing waste problems as more than 8 million are thrown away in Britain every day, with a single nappy taking up to 500 years to completely degrade.

Parents in the area are to be urged to turn instead to nappies which can be laundered. Happily, the author of this report was the council’s head of “protective services”.
