I found this week’s lecture by the chief inspector (TES, March 1) a depressing experience. Not because Chris Woodhead’s arguments were unreasonable or because I disagreed with them. It was the, now expected, subtle thread of tendentious opinion which caused the gloom.
To have a chief inspector who has lost the confidence of the majority of people professionally engaged in education, thereby reducing the credibility of his office, is unfortunate. To have one who conspicuously fails to understand why that is a problem is just plain sad.
