State schools must do more to encourage their pupils to study science, technology and maths (STEM) subjects to address the country’s shortage of science graduates, the CBI (Confederation of British Industry) has warned. Research released by the organisation shows that only 7 per cent of comprehensive students took at least one science A-level, while just 10 per cent of comprehensive pupils took triple science at GCSE.
