Celtic Connections has launched its 2007 festival programme, which runs from January 17-February 4 and has education at its core.

Since 1998, more than 100,000 children from across Scotland (including pupils from 70 per cent of Glasgow schools) have attended its free workshops and concerts.

Taster workshops will run in schools, with Celtic musicians introducing traditional Scots song, storytelling, Scots and Irish stepdance and tuition in tin whistle, bodhran, fiddle and clarsach.

This year’s festival will have a distinct American flavour, including Richie Havens, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Rosanne Cash, the daughter of Johnny. Other highlights include Clannad’s first live show in 10 years, Salsa Celtica and Eddi Reader (pictured).
