A new pound;2.5 million dedicated performing arts centre is on the agenda for the Mary Erskine and Stewart’s Melville independent schools in Edinburgh. The three schools - a combined primary and separate secondaries - will reconstruct the interior of the Stewart’s Melville College assembly hall to enhance the teaching and performing facilities for pupils and members of the community.

The new centre will seat 800 and has been designed by architects Simpson and Brown. It will be available for community use by local drama and musical groups as well as arts groups, while the schools hope it will also be a venue for the Edinburgh International Festival each summer.
