The golden days when directors of education had real power were recalled at the recent 40th birthday celebrations of St Dominic’s primary, also in Castlemilk.

The logbook records that when the school opened, it was equipped with male staff toilets only, despie the fact that the teachers were almost all women.

The legendary director of education for the city, Stewart McIntosh, paid a visit (at least to the school) and hearing of the problem decreed that female arrangements should be provided forthwith.
