Employers must change their attitude towards training if Britain is to compete in the global market, a study commissioned by the Department for Education and Employment warns.
Seven out of 10 employees without the promise of “jobs for life” have had no training in the core skills required for high performance, the report shows.
Where training had been given, the more flexible working brought benefits to the company. But employers are still reluctant to train in the skills that may benefit other companies. In the long term, this will damage the UK’s competitiveness, it concludes.
