Charles Clarke says more work needed on aspects of the Tomlinson proposals

* Charles Clarke, the Education Secretary, told the education select committee this week that more work was still needed on aspects of the Tomlinson proposals.

He said that on vocational courses and reducing student disengagement, two of five areas he had asked the former chief inspector to look at, there were still “challenging issues” to consider.

However, he said the report was “pretty good” on the three other aspects he had asked Mr Tomlinson to look at: stretching brighter pupils, reducing the assessment burden and ensuring that young people were employable.
