Giving it up

happy_monkey I am at the end of my third year on supply after completing my probationary year. I’m almost 30 and feel as if I’m still waiting for my life to start, due to the lack of a permanent job. I get plenty of supply work, but I find the whole supply thing very lonely. I have decided that if I don’t secure a permanent job after the summer, I’m going to have to change careers, but haven’t the faintest idea where to begin. I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology and my postgrad in teaching. Any ideas?

champagnecharlie Have you looked at LTSHMIESQA for vacancies? This would at least allow you to stay within education. Have you tried England? I know a couple of people your age who have recently got on to graduate trainee schemes with big companies.

betsyb1 Until recently, I was in a similar position. I decided that, much as I wanted to work as a primary teacher, the stress of going for jobs that are already “taken” was not worth it. I looked at other options on different job-seeking websites and got lucky. Look at FE posts, posts with child welfare charities etc. Psychology degree with your postgrad would certainly make you attractive to employers.
