The latest chat from the TES Scotland forums Internal applicants only? LoveHirano: What does everyone think about the internal applicants only criteria in jobs? I think it is completely unfair. Yesterday, I spent two hours working on an application for a schooljob which sounded fantastic and which I would be really suited for - today I got an email saying they had made a mistake and it was internal applicants only?! So I can’t apply for jobs in that council, yet someone from that council can apply for that job, plus any job from my own council. Every job should be open to everyone. kibosh: The cheapest candidate really does get it. nordanses: I’m really tired of all this “the cheapest candidate will get it”. To be honest, it feels like a witch hunt against probationers. I was recently interviewed for a permanent position. I’m a probationer (yes, the cheap option). However, from 30 applicants I came second - to someone with more experience. And I know that other probationers who had applied for the position weren’t even interviewed. So while I appreciate that sometimes the cheaper option will get the job, obviously there are still some schools and councils who are awarding jobs on merit. kibosh: Fair enough comment and I apologise. I am just a bitter and twisted supply teacher.
