I’M USING my new computer, complete with e-mail facility, for which I received pound;200 under the Computers for Teachers scheme. Can you tell me why teachers in England seem to be able to claim back up to pound;500? I spotted this in the Time education advert on the back page of the Friday section of The TES Scotland.

It appears that more teachers will benefit in Scotland (5,000), pro-

portionately, than south of the border. The English subsidy is taxable and the Scottish one is not, reducing the difference to about pound;180 - Editor.
