Cheap shots get us nowhere

I am genuinely staggered that David Bell (TES, February 6) said that primary schools lack the confidence to take control of the curriculum. This is sheer impudence of the very cheapest kind.

Can’t even the chief inspector appreciate the logical legacy of years of prescription, initiatives and imposed priorities that, in his previous roles, he did little to alleviate?

What is he going to do now to encourage and persuade primary teachers that offering breadth will not result in them being slagged off again by those who should be supporting them?
