Primary teachers are achieving a marked improvement in the academic progress of children in care according to the Office for Standards in Education. Inspectors say in a new report that target-setting and the national literacy and numeracy strategies have boosted pupils’ performance. But lack ofcommunication between schools and social workers was found to be a major problem. Up to 75 per cent of children in care leave school with no qualifications at all.
