Three sets of eight pupils and two teachers from three secondaries have travelled to China for immersion courses in Mandarin. As a follow-up to the First Minister’s visit to China in 2004, pupils from Kirkcaldy High, Grantown Grammar and Grange Academy, Kilmarnock, are away for two weeks’
intensive language learning with British Council support to three different parts of the country.
Students have already been through at least 10 hours’ tuition to prepare them for their visit, which began this week. The courses offer students and teachers intensive language lessons in the morning and cultural activities in the afternoon, such as kite-making, cooking, t’ai chi and painting.
Students are paired with Chinese students and will spend time in their homes.
