Chinese on the rise

The number of schools that are “centres of excellence” in teaching Chinese is set to triple this year, according to the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT). The so-called “Confucius classrooms” will increase to 34 schools this year, up from 12 in 2009. Elizabeth Reid, chief executive of the SSAT, said that studying Chinese could help students’ careers.
