The number of schools that are "centres of excellence" in teaching Chinese is set to triple this year, according to the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT). The so-called "Confucius classrooms" will increase to 34 schools this year, up from 12 in 2009. Elizabeth Reid, chief executive of the SSAT, said that studying Chinese could help students' careers.
