Circular logic

In asserting that circle time is "a bit pointless" ("What did Sir Jim say at circle time?", January 29), Sir Jim seems to be comparing "a precious hour" spent on a well-conducted phonics session with a badly conducted circle time. No argument if that's the implied comparison. But what if the comparison is between circle time well done and another hour spent on more phonics?
