The work of the Royal National Lifeboat Institute is an excellent stimulus for thinking about more complex notions involved in citizenship.

Resource packs for key stages 2 and 3 provide information and lesson plans to help teachers get discussions going. Younger children can help choose a lifeboat crew and consider what makes a good volunteer, or what is involved practically in helping others. Older pupils examine the difference between bravery and bravado, and look in detail at concepts such as charity and teamwork. There are also stories, interviews, and quizzes.
