Glasgow’s “Inspirations” festival (October 27-November 7) looks set to justify its promise to inspire the city’s teachers and children. What makes it different is that most of the 28 events are designed as “super-teaching”. Some take place in school. “Sounds of Progress”, for example, offers a 90-minute singing workshop based on the songs of Scotland’s travelling folk. Lunicorn offers an “art and thinking” workshop on unicorns, while Jilli Blackwood explores patterns of letters with words and textiles. Its international outlook is typified by composer Karen McIver’s project uniting a school in Glasgow with a school in Australia in a music composition and song-writing project. There’s even a workshop for the teachers - the chance to enhance their storytelling skills with storytellers from Germany, France and Scotland.
