Class comparison

When Mike Kent was shown into his “first classroom as a young teacher” he was lucky (“Ofsted, not just its chief, must change”, July 2). When I started my teaching career in a very small rural school in 1972, I did not even have a classroom.

I taught my class of lower juniors in the village hall, a neighbour’s garden or shared a classroom with the headteacher. I don’t even remember having a blackboard or chalk.
