Now we teachers are told we must emulate the “dejunk your house” TV programmes and clear our teaching rooms of colour and exciting displays (“Colour and clutter can dim minds of pupils”, TES, November 17).
Who is telling us this? The children themselves? No, an education consultant. Surely a classroom can reflect a vibrant love of learning and joy in the wonderful things in the world, and give space for children to be quiet and peaceful.
Colour and reflection are not mutually exclusive. What hampers children’s progress are these inflexible diktats that don’t take individuality into account.
