Clear as mud

Just because ALI is more PC than Ofsted, it doesn't mean the organisation can't communicate in plain English. Last year's annual report by David Sherlock, its chief inspector, has been named Best Government Information Publication for 2003 in the Charity and Public Service Publishing Awards last week.

The report was produced by communications consultancy Saffron House and the enclosed CD-Rom was the work of m-corp, a "digital marketing agency."

Sadly, Mr Sherlock couldn't attend the award ceremony but, nevertheless, he is "chuffed".

Kevin Mangan, of Saffron, slightly more bafflingly, described their work as "probably groundbreaking in its transparency." Crikey.
