CofE finds appeal in academies

The pace of change in education is "chaotic", said Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, but it also provided the "breathtaking" prospect of the Church of England becoming the largest provider of secondary education. The CofE was previously opposed to expansion of the academies programme to outstanding schools, but is now seeking ways for the policy to work in its favour.
