Missed the Edinburgh festival? If the trains were booked up, you didn’t fancy spending your daylight hours in a sticky beer cellar, or you couldn’t face the astronomical accommodation costs, fear not. For the Fringe’s fittest and finest will be touring the UK this month, bringing their comedy magic to all the Brits too lazy to make the trek to the Scottish capital.

Ricky Gervais is playing a stretch of London dates at the Hammersmith Apollo and the Royal Albert Hall, with his latest smugfest Fame, casting what we’re sure will be a wry eye over the crazy world of celebrity, and for a mere Pounds 15 to pound;30 you could be in on the joke.

If the millionaire award-hogger is a bit too mainstream for you, why not try the understated but wittily inventive Sean Lock? A regular on Channel 4‘s 8 out of 10 Cats and TV Heaven, Telly Hell (but don’t hold it against him), he will be touring regional theatres from September 12.

Rhona Cameron, the Scottish comic, brings her black humour to Soho Theatre, London (September 18-22, sohotheatre.com). Pug-faced star of the 1990s Sean Hughes, and Punt and Dennis (them off Radio 4) will also be taking to the road. See chortle.co.uk for more details.
