The cult Australian teenage comedy The Rage in Placid Lake, about a misfit called Placid Lake who is brought up by hippy parents and leaves school for a career in insurance only to find it is not for him, is being screened on August 20 as part of the Edinburgh International Film Festival’s schools programme aimed at Higher pupils.
EIFF programme adviser Shiona Wood says that despite a lot of strong contenders for the comedy spotlight, most contained an excess of graphic language that prevented them being included in the programme. “We wanted to include a British comedy. There was one called Four Eyes, directed by Scottish film-maker Duncan Finnigan, but there was just too much bad language,” she says.
