A father who was forced to pay for buses to ferry his atheist daughter to a non-church school has been awarded pound;325 compensation. Ian Abbott spent pound;2,000 on fares to send his daughter Laura to Hodgson technology college, in Poulton-le-Fylde, between 1998 and 2003 rather than her local Church of England school. Councils subsidise transport to church schools outside a child’s neighbourhood, not secular schools. Mr Abbott, 51, who is also an atheist, is pressing Lancashire County Council for the full pound;2,000.
