The British Airport Authority is challenging Young Engineers’ Club members aged 15 years upwards to monitor how their school or college uses such resources and energy as heating, lighting and paper. They should identify areas where waste is generated, suggest practical improvements, devise a workable “environmental policy” and prepare a report and presentation. Aspiring journalists still at school or university are invited to provide two extracts (totalling not more than 1,200 words) from an imaginary debate: one speaker attacking the millennial celebrations as so many feeble-minded delusions, the other defending them as symbols of latter-day Christian hope.
