A woodland camp for inner-city children has been relocated after villagers complained it was a blight on their community.
More than 250 children from Lambeth, south London, were due to go on a five day camp at Lurgashall, a site in West Sussex which is run by the Woodcraft Folk, this week. Instead they went to Henry Fort activity centre near Guildford.
Ruth Kelly, the former education secretary, now the Communities and Local Government Secretary, ratified an order by Chichester district council stopping any camping on the land without planning consent.
Camps at Lurgashall which are due to take place in September will also have to be relocated.
The Woodcraft Folk, a youth organisation which has been involved in the peace movement for more than 40 years, has vowed to keep the site open.
