Computer thieves target classrooms

COMPUTER hardware worth millions of pounds is being stolen from schools and universities because they are seen as a soft target.

Insurance companies and information technology experts estimate the annual loss to be around pound;10 million and thecrime spree threatens the Government's pound;1 billion investment plans to link every school to the Internet by 2002, according to John McNally, a member of the information technology committee of the National Association of Head Teachers.
