OCTOBER 15 TRANSITION TO ADULTHOOD Barnardo's annual conference at the Palace Hotel, Manchester, on education, training, employment and benefits for young people which coincides with the publication of a report of the same title and of a Young People's Charter. OCTOBER 16 THE IMPOSSIBLE CHILD: IS THERE AN ANSWER?

OCTOBER 18 "GOODNIGHT CHILDREN EVERYWHERE": EVACUATION IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR Organised by and held at the Imperial War Museum to link up with its "Evacuees" exhibition. Aimed at teachers from key stage 2 to college level. Lecturers include Dr Martin Parsons, Reading University, and Stephen Davies, a psychologist, and there will be a panel discussion with former evacuees, including the author Lynne Reid-Banks.
