* The Mathematical Association and Association of Teachers of Mathematics are celebrating the centenary of the Liverpool Mathematical Society and looking forward to the millennium with a joint conference on the theme Hundreds and Thousands. It will be hosted by the LMS on April 6-9, 1999, at Liverpool Hope University College. * The Royal Institution of Great Britain has been running mathematics masterclasses for Year 8 or 9 students all over the country since 1980. It has now embarked on a similar programme for primary children. Normally selected from school recommendations, students are invited to attend a series of five to 10 Saturday classes involving formal and informal workshops.
