"Science and Society" is the theme of the British Association for the Advancement of Science's annual festival at Glasgow University, September 2-7.BA, 23 Savile Row, London W1X 2NB. Briefing days, workshops, debates and conferences are being organised for young people throughout the UK and they are writing reports and participating in online debates. The new school-based Cerificate of Continuing Professional Development from the Association for Science Education and the Open University is aimed at science teachers in years two to five of their careers. Participants demonstrate progress in seven areas of professional development over two years. It is currently available to ASE and Royal Society of Chemistry members for pound;300, pound;350 non-members (normal fee pound;600).
