Training provider Stands for Education is holding a conference for heads of PE in Manchester, June 20-July 5, called “Moving forward with confidence: meeting new challenges and increasing demands”. It is also running a training day for teachers of PE called “Moving on with ICT in PE:how to develop challenging ICT activities that will motivate pupils and raise attainment at key stage 3 and 4” in Birmingham (June 11), Melton Mowbray (June 13), London (July 2 and September 26), Taunton (September 19). It will cover: PE intranets; basic PE web page design (FrontPage); digital cameras; performance technique analysis; organisation and monitoring of information (Excel and Access).

* The 12th Commonwealth International Sport conference organised by universities in the north-west of England, the Association of Commonwealth Universities and other organisations will be held at Manchester Metropolitan University, July 19-23. For researchers, policy-makers and practitioners, it will emphasise the relationship between health, exercise and business. Speakers include Sir Roger Bannister, first man to run the four-minute mile; Neil Armstrong, professor of paediatric physiology, Exeter University; Andrew Steptoe of the British Heart Foundation and professor of psychology, University College London, on increasing physical activity and psychological well-being in the general population.

* The Physical Education Association of the UK is holding its annual conference and AGM on July 21 at the above event. It is also holding a PEAUK Fellows’ day on the theme of “Children, physical education, sport and health” at The Queen’s Club, West Kensington, London W14, December 5. Afternoon lectures are open to all and will be given by Bob Laventure, Fellow of the Association, and Nicola Maffuli, professor of orthopaedic surgery, Keele University School of Medicine.
