The Historical Association’s annual Celebrating History weekend will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Liverpool, April 16-18. Visits and walks will explore: Georgian Liverpool, the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool’s transatlantic slave trade, Albert Dock, Pier Head and Ince Blundell Hall.

There will also be a ferry trip along the Mersey with commentary. On the Sunday, Professor Harry Dickinson will give a talk on “Charles James Fox in Caricature” and Professor Sir Ian Kershaw will share his expertise on Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich. “Belonging to Europe - small nation, big issues”, the annual conference and professional training development course run by EUROCLIO (the European Standing Conference of History Teachers’ Associations), will be held in Cardiff, March 30-April 4. Organised by the Association of History Teachers in Wales, it will explore the role history is meant to play in the socialisation of children in society; how far a state agenda and a national consensus about interpretation of the past should inform principles of history in schools; teaching local history from the perspective of its interaction with common European influences, movements and ideas; and how the concept of interpretations is approached in different parts of Europe.
