The Christian Education Movement is running secondary courses on: improving standards in secondary RE (Chesterfield, June 17, and Middlesbrough, June 18); RE for teachers with other specialisms, (Manchester, October 12, and London, November 18); and attainment and assessment in RE (Derby, October 7, and London, November 1). Primary courses include: improving and teaching learning (London, June 9, Middlesbrough, October 22, and Leicester, January 20, 2000); and using religious artefacts in the classroom (Nottingham, June 28, and London, February 29, 2000). “Four religions”, a Professional Council for Religious Education development day at Wolverhampton University, Walsall, June 30, is aimed at primary and secondary teachers and costs pound;85, pound;60 PCfRE members. A new residential course, “Developing RE:the role of the subject leader”, is being held at Trinity and All Saints University College, Horsforth, Leeds, on July 2-3 for teachers in primary, secondary and special schools. The Religious Tract Society celebrates its bicentenary this year. Events include a conference on its history and influence on children’s literature organised by the Children’s Books History Society at the University of East Anglia, July 29-August 1.
