The Government is consulting on guidance for local authorities about how to improve the well-being of all young children and minimise inequalities.
Local authorities have a duty under the Childcare Act 2006 to work towards targets based on the early years foundation stage profile. The guidance calls for closer working between local authorities, strategic health authorities, primary care trusts and Jobcentres Plus.
