(Photograph) - Indian schoolchildren celebrate the most important event in the Buddhist calendar, Vesak day, which took place on Monday, by praying in front of a statue of Lord Buddha in Chandigarh. The holida honours the birth, enlightenment and passing of the deity. In the temples, monks chant holy sutras and devotees release captive birds as a mark of respect to all living creatures and to gain merit.
