Cornwall - Children’s services plans scaled down

Plans to provide extra support for children in Cornwall have been dashed because of a lack of money.

The council wanted to set up 19 partnerships to improve links between the professionals looking after children, which included health visitors, school nurses, speech and language services and mental health practitioners.

Children’s services were rated as “inadequate” by Ofsted last year and the Government has ordered the council to make improvements.

But the plans have been scaled back, with smaller groups being formed instead. Denbigh Cowley, head of the council’s school transformation programme, said: “The previous plan ... is too ambitious and unaffordable.” km.
