Cornwall NAGM has issued an “action plan” to encourage a co-ordinated approach to budget cuts. It suggests governing bodies: Do everything they can to set a budget this year.

Explain to parents how their children will be affected.

Ask them to write to their MP posing specific questions to put to the Secretary of State.

Draw up a realistic “needs” budget to give hard facts on the extent of the shortfall.

Predict the effect of similar cuts next year.

Use every avenue to keep this issue in the public eye Make funding an important feature of the annual report to parents.

Work with the local authority to obtain facts and figures.

“Above all, don’t let things go quiet,” the action plan advises.
